British Fires New Forest 870 Electric Fire
- Air Curtain Technology — patented heat dispersion
- Flush glass finish — seamless wall integration
- Hand-scorched oak logs — genuine UK timber
- Three fuel bed colours — orange, pink, blue
The British Fires New Forest 870 brings award-winning flame visuals into a compact, versatile format that suits almost any living space. At 870mm wide, it hits the sweet spot between presence and practicality — wide enough to command attention, compact enough for standard chimney breasts and media walls.
Air Curtain Technology disperses heat efficiently without blowing air directly into the room, while the flush-finish front glass sits seamlessly within your wall using the patented ACT system. Choose from three distinct editions: the Signature with its classic ceramic log set and mirrored rear glass; the Deluxe with genuine hand-scorched oak logs and mirrored glass; or the Black Edition with dark rear glass and Deluxe Real Logs for a dramatic, contemporary statement.
Every 870 comes with remote control, thermostatic heating (17°C–27°C), and timer functions as standard. Three fuel bed colours — orange, pink, and blue — let you match the flame mood to your décor. Install it front-facing, cornered, or three-sided. Add the optional SCHOTT AR glass upgrade for an even clearer, more immersive flame view.

About the British Fires New Forest Collection
The New Forest range is named after the ancient woodland in Hampshire, England — a landscape of oak, beech, and wild ponies that's inspired British craftspeople for centuries. British Fires brought that inspiration indoors.
The challenge was creating an electric fire that didn't look electric. Most LED fires feel like a screen saver. The New Forest feels like a hearth.
The breakthrough was Air Curtain Technology — a patented system that disperses heat without visible vents or grilles, allowing the front glass to sit completely flush with the wall. No protruding frame. No visible heater. Just glass, flame, and logs.
The fuel beds were developed next. The Signature ceramic logs capture the texture of real wood charred by fire. The Deluxe Real Logs take it further — genuine oak, responsibly sourced from UK forests, individually scorched and charred by hand, then set solidly into place. Each size has its own unique campfire arrangement.
Then came the glass options. Standard toughened safety glass. SCHOTT anti-reflective glass for a crystal-clear view. And for the Black Edition, dark rear glass that absorbs light and creates a dramatic, uninterrupted backdrop.
The result is a range of electric fires that doesn't apologise for being electric. It celebrates what electric can do — precision control, flexible installation, genuine fuel beds, and flame effects that look better than many gas fires.
A true fireplace does not merely heat a space—it ignites the heart of the home

Air Curtain Technology Efficienc
Air Curtain Technology pushes heat outward through a concealed channel behind the glass, eliminating the need for visible vents or grilles. The front glass sits completely flush with your wall surface. No frame. No gaps. Just seamless integration.
LED Flame Technology
High-efficiency LED elements create sharp, crisp flame effects with natural colour variation. The flame visuals are reflected and amplified by the rear glass — mirrored on Signature and Deluxe editions, dark on Black Edition — creating depth that flat-screen electric fires can't match. Each LED element is positioned to cast light upward through the fuel bed, creating authentic shadows and highlights across the log surfaces. The result is a flame effect that reads as three-dimensional from any viewing angle.
LED Downlighting & Three Flame Colours
Every New Forest model includes LED downlighting beneath the fuel bed, casting light upward through the logs to create depth and shadow across the textured surfaces. Whether you choose the Signature ceramic logs with their bark and husk details, or the Deluxe Real Logs with hand-scorched oak grain, the upward light catches the irregular surfaces and creates natural-looking highlights and shadows that read as genuine flame interaction rather than flat screen illumination.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Air Curtain Technology?
Air Curtain Technology is British Fires' patented system that disperses heat through a concealed channel behind the glass. Unlike conventional electric fires with visible heater vents or grilles, ACT allows the front glass to sit completely flush with your wall. The result is a seamless, frameless look that integrates the fire into your wall surface rather than sitting proud of it.
What's the difference between Signature, Deluxe, and Black Edition?
**Signature** features a convincing ceramic log set with bark, husk, and slate pieces. The logs are loose components you arrange yourself — forest view, slate view, or diamond light configurations. Rear mirrored glass is standard.
**Deluxe** upgrades to genuine oak logs from UK forests, individually scorched and charred by hand. Each model size has its own unique campfire-style arrangement, set solidly in place for easy installation. Rear mirrored glass is standard.
**Black Edition** pairs dark rear glass with Deluxe Real Logs for the most dramatic visual effect. The dark glass absorbs excess light and reduces reflections, putting the flame and fuel bed detail centre stage.
Which size New Forest should I choose for my room?
The New Forest range comes in six widths, each suited to different spaces. The 650SQ at 652mm wide is ideal for small fireplaces, chimney breasts, and compact rooms where space is tight. The 870 at 870mm is the most versatile — it suits standard rooms and works in almost any installation. For medium-sized rooms where you want balanced presence without overwhelming the space, the 1200 at 1200mm is the sweet spot. If you're building a media wall around a 55 or 65 inch TV, the 1600 at 1600mm lines up perfectly. The 1900 at 1900mm is designed for large rooms and grand media wall installations where you want serious visual impact. And the 2400 at 2400mm is the ultimate statement piece — the widest model, created from two fires joined together, built for the largest TVs and the most dramatic focal points. Start with your room size or TV width, then match the fire to it.
Can I install a New Forest fire myself?
The New Forest is designed for straightforward installation by a competent DIYer or tradesperson. Each fire comes with a kit for front-facing, cornered, or three-sided installation. However, because part of the fire is concealed behind the wall, we recommend having the fire on site before starting the build. For electrical connection, a qualified electrician should hardwire the unit to a fused connection point.
What is SCHOTT anti-reflective glass, and should I upgrade?
SCHOTT AR glass is an optional upgrade on all New Forest models. It reduces reflections on the front and side glass by up to 80%, giving you a clearer, more immersive view of the flame effect and fuel bed. If your fire will face windows, bright lights, or glossy surfaces, the AR upgrade makes a noticeable difference. On Signature and Deluxe models with mirrored rear glass, the combination of AR front and mirrored rear creates exceptional visual depth.
Are the Deluxe Real Logs really made from genuine oak?
Yes. The Deluxe Real Logs are crafted from genuine oak sourced responsibly from UK forests (Dorset suppliers). Each log is individually scorched and charred by hand, then set solidly into place. Because they're natural wood products, no two fuel beds are identical — there will be minor variations in grain, colour, and texture. This is part of their authenticity, not a flaw.
Can I use the flame effect without the heater?
Yes. All New Forest models allow you to run the LED flame effect independently of the heater. This means you can enjoy the visual ambience year-round without any heat output. When you do want warmth, the thermostatic control maintains your set temperature between 17°C and 27°C.
What are the three fuel bed colours?
The LED flame effect can be set to three colours: Orange — traditional warm flame tones, Pink— softer, contemporary glow, Blue — modern, atmospheric effect. You can switch between them using the remote control to match your mood or décor.
What electrical supply does the New Forest need?
All New Forest models require a standard 220–240V AC supply with a 13-amp fused connection. The 1500W heat output is equivalent to a conventional electric heater. The 2400 model uses two 1500W elements (3000W total) and requires two separate supplies.
